Thus, the M1 Ultra boasts a 20-core CPU, a 48- or 64-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine. In essence, then, the M1 Ultra specs just double those of the M1 Max, which features a 10-core CPU, a 24- or 32-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Equally important is the fact that the M1 Ultra looks to developers like a single chip, eliminating the need for custom coding. To avoid that, Apple designed its M1 Max chip with something that hadn’t previously been mentioned-the UltraFusion architecture that offers 2.5 terabytes per second of interprocessor bandwidth, supposedly more than four times the competition.
